Heh LiPos are a pandora's box. If you got your gearbox down right a LiPo can be rewarding. For me, that actually means being constantly vigilant to make sure your gearbox is in top condition. Corollary to that, you know something will fail sooner only because of the sheer speed that a LiPo will drive your motor and gears.
As for the DVD battery - there is a long ignored/hidden/forgotten factor - discharge rate. A DVD battery though may have a high mAh or may even a high voltage rating - the electronics do not need or may not be able to take a high discharge rate.
Thats why cell for cell - alkaline batteries will not compare against a lower voltage nicd or nimh.

Just a quick question, is it possible to have a large type batery in an ECHO1 G36? The battery compartment looked really small, just big enough to fit the battery it came with.

Im in your basez kiling your manz
i have suspicions that my "universal smart charger" hasnt been finishing the job lately
is thier any good way to tell if its just my batteries wearing out or if the charger is taking a crap?
when i plug it to a fully discharged batt. it seems to me that its not taking as long as
it used to to say its done (green light). also the batteries are dieing sooner but
its also been very cold so im having trouble figuring out which it is.

could be a bit of both. What I do when it says it's charged far earlier than I expect, I hit the "charge button" again. This will usually have it finish charging.
Hey guys, I have a NI-MH battery that has been sitting around a few months with out being charged. Could I just charge it and use it for tomorrow or do I have to discharge it? The only problem is, is that I can't find my discharger.

Did you even READ the thread? The answer is in the first post! Please start reading and searching for your own answers to questions that have been asked and answered a thousand times before. We are here to help but you need to understand that answering the same questions over, and over, and over, and over, and over and over and over and over and over and over DOES get a little tiresome after the first hundred times! I'm glad you're taking an interest and trying to learn here but please don't ask the common sense answers to be spoon fed to you when they are already there in black and white for you to read.

about charging times, i took my battery's capacity (600mAh) and divided by my chargers output (7.8V), and got 80, rounding up. this doesn't seem right to me did i do something wrong?

Your charger has to have a HIGHER voltage output than your batteries for it to work. 7.8v isn't enough for an 8.4v battery.
Also, you can't divide volts by mAh. You have to find the output of your charger in mAh, then do the math like you did above.
Well, I just got my Echo 1 G36C. The battery is 1100 mAh at 8.4 volts, and the charger outputs 250 mAh at 8.5 volts. I did the math, and charged it up for about 4 hours and 24 minutes. Yet the battery only lasts for about 600 shots before the motor doesn't even turn over. My mom thinks I have a bad battery, but I think the battery just sucks in the first place. Is the amount of shots normal?
PS: Does Montgomeryville Army Navy carry batteries and chargers?
I opened the box to the new gun that I picked up last night... "Be sure to read your Owner Manual..." HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
For the amount of money I spent on the E1 M4 Mod4, Echo-1 should really hire a translator who is fluent in the english language. I'm not poking any fun at any race or nationality, but damn. It was almost like reading a comicbook or the funnys in the Sunday paper.
Reading the manual, well it kinda has me scratching my head.
Again thank you!
4200 mAh batteries have larger cells than their smaller counterparts. I wouldn't chance it. Look at the first post on this page (do it again, because you read the thread before posting in it, right?) for my previous comment on batteries this large.
Capacity/charger doesn't take into account the resistance of the cells. You might want to go over 10 - 20% on the first charge but make sure the battery doesn't get hot. If you leave a battery on too long or forget a battery overnight you can fry it. I have a 1500 that I left on over night the second time I charged it and it won't unload a high cap now.
I think the best advice you can give anyone is to buy a smart charger. You can pick one up for about $35. It is the first "upgrade" I recommend people get. Your don't have to worry about your batteries getting fried. They will always have a peak charge when they are done. Not under/over charging them before you use them will increase the life of the battery.
The smart chargers just keep you from damaging your batteries when you charge them. Some do have a discharger built in, but you have to select it to use it. I don't think any of them are automatic because you don't want to charge a battery immediately after discharging it (unless you are conditioning the battery)
