AGM MP-40: Piece of Crap?

While at WWII weekend I found a very interesting, AGM MP-40. I looked it over and liked what I saw but didn't like the price or the condition of the guns the guy had with him. So I went onto Reddragonairsoft.net and snagged one a little cheaper ($120) and two extra mags.

Out of the box, I was pleased. The gun was nice with a good weight and looked freaking amazing. After messing around with it a little I noticed a few issues; First of all, the magazine didn't stay in the mag well. It's not like it would slip out but I could easily pull it out without hitting the release button. Next, the bolt got very loose and even when I went to tighten the screws they came right back loose again, not to mention they are at an almost impossible angle to access.

Then, while at a friends house I brought my new toy along. As soon as I sat it down, the bottom cap of the mag fell off and the whole thing fell apart. I managed to get it back together and it holds alright but when I went to load it the BB's wouldn't even stay in the mag! As soon as I took the speed loader off they shot right off.

Now, the extra mags weren't much better. Neither holds BB's in consistently and the second one fell apart in my hands as I took it out of the plastic wrapping. I bought the extras at Air Splat

I bought this gun mainly as a collectors item but I was hoping it would be able to be used at least. Does anyone have experience with this weapon? Are these problems because of the gun or because of the retailers I bought them from? I'm just wondering because none of this was mentioned in any review I saw. Thanks

Mp-40 a POS, apparently....
Well first off you made the mistake of buying an AGM. Anything AGM is going to be crude and full of issues. Hopefully you can tweak the problems, and can possibly turn it into a decent gun. If you cant do it, I can as well as Oldman. I took one of those crappy JLS Fn F2000's and made it into a really good aeg. The only issue it you have to replace every internal part, which gets expensive. The AGM, JLS, BE, DE, are all the crappyest of the crap airsoft guns. There only good for wall hangers, or for those who really want to tinker and turn something crude into a fine working aeg. Unfortunately you learned 2 of the most important rules in airsoft the hard way.

1. You get what you pay for.
2. Research before you guy a gun.

I hope somehow you are able to fix the "bugs." If not I'd love to take a stab at it.

That'd be cool. I'm really just concerned that the thing shoots. Do you have any idea how I'd be able to fix the magazine so that the BB's will actually stay in. I tried putting some tape over the feeding catch to help keep them down but then they wouldn't come out when I shot. I'm returning the one I got, and im not sure if I'll get another. Are there any other companies that sell MP-40's?

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune with this gun. I never had a problem with mine, or any of the magazines.

redwolf has the TOP mp 40 on clearance right now for $328 if your willing to go that route. Be warned though TOP comes with its own brand of issues.

I found this, but it looks like the TSD and AGM are the same thing.

TSD rebrands the AGM.

As for the OP, dude, your problem is bought from Jarek the Arab Dragon! You ever see his videos? He man-handles the guns he sells out of his (momma's?) house. I've seen a video where he drops the freaking gun. Wonders why he didn't edit that out. There's countless threads on this guy. And supposedly he claims he re-shims EVERY gun he sells free of charge. If this is true, and with this guy, it just might, he could be the reason your mag-well is broken. Go on youtube and search TM VZ. 61 Scorpion. There's a video of a guy's Asian buddy who can barely speak English and JarekDarekJerJerJerDragon (Jarek4) comments on the video saying that TM guns suck and that KWA and G&G are so much better and will last 10 times longer.

I advise everyone to stay clear from this freak.

If you are having trouble keeping the bb's in your mag try taking it apart and seeing if the spring came out or loose from the bb catch at the top of the feed tube. Its an easy fix if you have a small spring on hand. I found that when fixing two out of the 6 pmags i ordered since the mag has 3 springs and only 2 are really necessary i did not have to run out for a spring.

Actually I just checked with my grandmother (since I don't have a credit card, she usually orders the thing after I give her the money) and she said she got it off of airrattle.com, not redragonairsoft.com.
