Attention airsmiths: High speed build with Marui M4
Since my M4 broke, I've decided I might as well make it interesting when I replace the gears. I want a high speed gun, not one that will break often, but one that will be able to range about 170 feet, and get around 1,200 rpm. And I want to keep my stock Marui spring. Right now it gets 900 rpm chrono verified.
Basically, I want my old CA AK back. Everything I described is everything it was besides the not breaking part.
So how would I go about this? I was thinking I would get this to start out:
Modify high speed gears(pre-shimmed, drop-in set from airsoftatlanta)
Madbull 363mm 6.03 tightbore barrel(hotspotairsoft)
Systema bucking(also from hotspotairsoft)
The EG1000 seems like a good enough motor for a high speed setup, I read that the G&P is faster but neither of those places carries them or has them in stock, and I don't want to order from the West Coast or overseas.
So, if you have any suggestions for gearsets, barrels, or buckings in that price range, please speak up, I want the best value and performance for my money.
Please only speakup if you have experience with a high speed setup similar to what I want to do or if you've built this kind of gun for someone else, I don't want every person with a tightbore telling me how theirs is the best, or how I should just buy _________ gun because it's "rofs is lieck 1bajillion".

Do you want your max effective range to be 170 feet? Or just to be able to put bbs out that far? I say this because you will have a hard time getting decent groupings at 170 ft with a stock Marui spring. I would up your spring slightly to a Prometheus M100 (around 330 fps). Also the G&P M120 would be a better choice for motor. http://www.airsoftarms.com/GP-M120-H...otor-Long-Type That place is in Ohio. I would also be wary of pre-shimmed gearsets. Shimming is not too hard of an upgrade to do yourself. So I would get:
Prometheus M100
Prometheus 6.03 TBB
Systema Bucking
SCS Nub
Guarder Steel High Speed Gear Set
Shims
Di-electric Grease
G&P M120
9.6v Battery
Also a Ball-bearing Spring Guide, if you don't already have one.
That should give you 170 feet of range and around 20 rps.

I want to caution you not to go to crazy with the high speed set ups. Mp MP5A4 is set up with a MS90 spring, systema high speed gear set, 8mm ball bearings, bearing spring guide, it HAD a high speed motor which was removed because 200round highcaps would NOT feed reliably, You may want to include sector chip and pay close attention to angle of engagement between piston and sector gear. a AOE issue was put forth as a possible cause of my stripped piston in my M4.
I have noticed a range improvement with a TK Twist barrel in low velocity set ups, but I can't codify how much of a improvement it is or how much of a difference it is between another quality tight bore.
You can get a LOT more information on build ups at airsoftmechanics forum.

If you can find the EG30000 motor in the US get that. I have that in my LR with a madbull M100 spring, Systema hop up and a 6.01 barrel it does about 170 ft and set at about 23 rps.

Close friends and bullets where are they when you need them.
I want my max effective range range to be 170 feet but with my stock Marui M85 spring. I had a CA AK that shot lower fps than my TM but at 1200 rpm and it hit 170 feet accurately, so I'm confident that I can have that performance again.
If a prommy barrel and scs nub is what is generally recommended I'll do that instead of the madbull, but if I can't get twenty feet more range accurately with a new barrel and hopup then I might just leave that part of the gun alone and only buy new gears and maybe a new motor.
Also, do you have experience with the guarder high speed gears? If they're better than or as good as the modify set I picked out I could save some money, but it's only worth it if they're basically the same or if the guarder gears are better.

TM barrels when worn in are the best barrels I have run in my gun.... Got one in my M16A4 And that gun smacks bb's out 220 feet with .27's.........
Anyhow for high speed you need the best of the best stuff.....
-Prommy Solo Ratio torque gears. PROPERLY SHIMMED!
-Eg1000 Eg3000 G&P m140 overkill.
-Ball bearing piston head.
-Ball bearing's.
-A good air seal.
-Prommy Bucking-Systema Chamber was my best combo yet.
More info on prommy gears... They wont break they just keep going and going.. Anyone who heard my M4 2 weekends ago that does 31.6 RPS on my sound board.. Still want a chrono to prove it.. But It also does 390 FPS. I also can Say it is accurate out to about 195 feet 200 feet. With the hopup set properly.
Another note if you want a high speed gun bring it to the store Vercing does an excellant job..

I'd like to bring it to you guys, but I don't have a way there, or the extra money to pay labor rates if it ends up taking longer than an hour or two. My TM barrel bent awhile back and TOPH gave me a CA sportline barrel to run in it and while it does its job I think I'll try a madbull 6.01 and a prommy bucking for range.
Andrew, you said systema chambers are good in combo with prommy buckings, but will I have any issues running a one piece chamber in a plastic bodied gun? I think it was Old Man who said that a two piece chamber gives a better air seal, but I can't remember where I read that.
I'm going to have to replace the gears anyway since they stripped, and since I want high speed I think high speed gears would be the best option.
I still don't know the damage done on my M4, it could just be one gear that stripped, so if that's the case I'll leave it alone after I replace that and just do the barrel upgrades for now, then cover the high speed setup next time something breaks.

All I can contribute to this thread is the Modify All-In-One Gearset - they are phenomenal. They are preshimmed in perfect alignment with eachother, don't need to touch 'em - if you ever have to open the box up, just pop out & in, cakewalk style.

Thanks Jay, that's what I was looking for regarding the Modify gears. I'll probably get the high spped gears then, but I think first I'll replace the gears with some TOPH has generously offered and do the barrel upgrades, then I'll work on other internal upgrades to get it shooting the extra rpm I want. I think I should get a backup gun before I do major work to this one *cough Marui M16VN cough*.

Keep the Tm piston, just mod it for propper AOE
Modify Piston head (Polycarb)
Bearing spring guide
Modify Air nozzle
Modify M100 spring
Modify highspeed preshimmed gearset
Keep the Tm motor
Use a quality 9.6v battery, or even a 11.1v lipo
If you want to change the hop and barrel get promy for both.
That set up will give you a really nice rof, but not too high so the durability doesnt go to s**t.
One of the fastest guns I worked on had:
Modify highspeed gear set (preshimmed)
Modify Ultra piston with Aoe
Bearing spring guide
Modify 100 spring
Aluminum piston head
systema magnum motor
Cheetah Mosfet
11.1v 3300 mah 20c lipo

Okay, so thanks to TOPH I have a fully functional aeg again. I'll get the upgrades in time, I want to make sure I have a backup gun first, but thanks for all of the advice. If I have more questions when I get the parts, I'll be sure to ask, but you guys have answered my questions so far very well.
Thanks,
Frank.
