Buckings for certain fps

Do you need a certain bucking for lower fps guns?

It depends on the gun, not the FPS. AEPs need a special type of bucking I believe, but all regular AEGs use the same size/etc. The only thing that sometimes differs is hardness, which determines how much more or less hop up you need to put suficient backspin on the BB.

Use a soft bucking for guns shooting under 400 FPS.

If your gun shoots hard, a hard bucking will not be a good choice...
Your hop up is fairly fragile and you want the bb to go through your barrel as fluently as possible.

If you are shooting real hot like 425 with an aeg and a promi hard bucking (which is real hard) you will get a less consistent hop up action and your internals are gonna be under stress because instead of putting an even amount of backspin on the bb, the bb is going to be going under a lot of pressure and that is going to cause a loss of air so technically a hard bucking may have a slight chance of lowering your fps.

I just like a balanced mid type bucking....

Please stop the spread of bad information.

Hard buckings are needed for higher velocities, the faster the BB is traveling there needs to be more force imparted on the backspin otherwise there will be insufficient hop. The descriptions on many retailers will tell you exactly what you want. Hard Buckings are used for 400+, soft buckings for sub 400. If I remember correctly the 50% silicone are designed for 320-400, but I could be off on which percentage goes to which specific velocities, but softer = slower speeds, harder = higher speeds.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but what if the gun is shooting right around 400 fps? I'm looking at getting a CYMA CM028 for a loaner gun, and I don't want to spend a lot of money changing it. ASGI chrono'd at 400 even. Should I go hard or soft bucking?

Get a soft bucking, the gun will eventually wear in to around 380-370.

I'd go with a Systema bucking. They're known to be good, and around the same price as the G&G green bucking.
