MILWAUKIE -- A California boy was arrested today after he threatened people with a realistic-looking toy airsoft pistol, then fought with bystanders who tried to hold him.
No one was injured. However, St. John the Baptist Catholic School temporarily was locked down.
Officer Kevin Krebs, Milwaukie police spokesman, said police were called at 12:15 p.m. to Southeast Washington Street and 25th Avenue after a report of a man threatening people with a gun. When police arrived, they found that the suspect had gotten into a scuffle with people who tried to detain him and was running from the scene.
Yevgeniy A. Pavlenko, 15, of Oceanside, Calif., was arrested two blocks away. He was referred to Clackamas County juvenile authorities, accused of menacing and disorderly conduct.
Krebs said the suspect's gun, which resembled a Colt .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, actually was an airsoft gun, a realistic-looking toy. Many airsoft guns are fitted with orange tips to distinguish them from real firearms, but the suspect's pistol did not have one.
AirSplat which sells airsoft guns, includes the following warning on the company Web site:
"Mistaken identification of an airsoft gun may result in the accidental death of the user. The airsoft gun must never be taken to an area in which a police officer or another person may interpret the airsoft as a real gun."

I remember answering a question for someone on Yahoo! Answers.. Said he wanted to shoot his airsoft gun in the woods behind his house. Tried my best to disuade him, hope it worked. I am getting really sick of these ignorant little morons. But at least this guy asked first if it was alright.
People like Yevgeniy give airsoft a bad reputation. You never see paintballers running into malls "brandishing" their PB markers.

Because if they did they would be laughed at and die of embarrassment instead of taken seriously. People don't think, they just think it's funny or that they can intimidate someone and do things like this kid did. I hope he gets what's coming to him. Whether it be a fine, or jail time.

Just cause I have tourettes doesn't mean I HAVE to curse uncontrollably, it's just a perk.
Well, Robbers I can understand wanting a more realistic gun. But idiot kids just want to look cool, I don't think (unless they are mentally insane) they actually want to scare people for the heck of it.
Regardless, the only way this kid will learn is the hard way... Otherwise he will probably be inclined to carry those things out in public again. Why can't people understand that they are not "toy" guns?

We need 'Stupid people' insurance not new laws that re enforce old ones and kill our sport. Much like the basatages in NJ state government tried to do.
This makes me what to go find this kid and go to his house and smack his parents. Because its obvious they were the ones who let him have it. I agree it is people like this that are going to ruin airsoft for respectable members of the airsofting community like us

Why? Why in the world would you even THINK of bringing an airsoft gun to a SCHOOL? Im scared to even bring mine to my backyard and plink some cans, let alone bring it out into public where people can see me! Idiots who bring these to school should get a slap in the face by a large strong man.

They do, but usually it's in prison, and it's not on the face either.
Edit: I think that deserves a "Forum Wise-Ass" Rank, don't you Palafoxx?

Wow. Two years ago I was riding my bike with my one neighbor, decided he wanted to bring along a little spring powered handgun to show off.I ditched him cause i didnt want to get in trouble and not even ten minutes later I ride back down and hes standing there getting questioned by like 5 cops.
Unfortunately this degenerate punk will probably get off with a slap on the wrist like most juvenile cases and learn absolutely nothing. God knows his parents have already failed and our joke of a justice system will fare no better. I look at kids today, (no offense to any of you here) and i weep for our future.
Stupid little jerk offs like this kid will get our hobby restricted yet.
Old thread is old. Please keep the "I agree" and "If it weren't for you kids and that dog!" commentary out of it.
