I just got email from my airsoft buddy that states cops in some areas in PA are banning backyard battles. The cause i dont know but im worried about them taking my Jin Gong and CA guns, when im having airsoft battles!!!
Think about it. If you where a cop and saw a gun in some kids hand, wouldnt you be a little confused. That and kids are getting irresponsible. Its not like when you could run around with a realistic looking gun and not worry about it. People have a tendancy to just not think in the cops shoes.

1) easy there, Calm down. Take a breath, proof read your posts. Make sure they're legible.
2) Good, back yard airsofting is already pretty much Banned anyway. It's dangerous and endangers the game all together. People see kids and adults running around with real looking assault rifles, and freak (as they should). Or people get hurt, and then someone gets sue-happy.
Im 13 , And Can I Ware SWAT Helmet With Clear Plastic Facemask Or Is A swat Helmet ...
I just found that fact figured it might help put somethings in perspective. We should probably try and guide him into not playing backyard airsoft instead of bashing him for it. (myself the only one who really bashed him i guess)
take it or leave it but it kind of explained a lot for me..
I'm not big into gettng involved with these kind of topics however, this one I have to say a little bit so please don't get angry with me.
First, unsanctioned games should be deterred by all means however, they do occur and that's just life.
Second, A police officer may see you playing with airsoft rifles and may make an objection to them but, he does not have the right to confiscate them from you especially if you are on private property unless local municipality has banned the use.
If you make your neighbors aware of what you are doing and you stay out of the area of roadways, you shouldn't have a problem.
HOWEVER,
Don't play on unsanctioned fields and end the problem to begin with.
My opinion whether right or wrong it's just an opinion.

Whether they have the right or not doesn't matter, fact is they will take them. Several people on these forums have had their gear confiscated.

Not really. because neighbors aren't the only ones who can stumble across you. Nature walkers, hikers, bikers, fishers, hunters, etc... all can show up and not be a part of the immediate community. And they will freak, and you will be charged.
And if some people think their spot is hidden, it's most likely not. A perfect example can be found on the forums, some kid was playing in the woods, confident in the knowledge that only HE knew about this little area he was in, and someone happened across it and stole ALL his gear while he was taking a leak or something.
It just like yelling fire in a crowded theater. It is ILLEGAL because it makes people do stupid things when they get worried about their safety or the safety of others.
If you play anywhere near the public eye you are needlessly putting your self and others in danger.
There are fields where you can and are encouraged to play. So take full advantage of them, we always welcome new players. Anyone who plays anywhere other then a sanctioned field must realize they are risking losing their guns, endangering themselves, or the safety of others.
Just like the old magician catching a bullet trick. Its safe when you are doing it in a controlled area. The problem comes when you do it in an area with an outside influence. Many magicians died from audience members jumping up and shooting them after screaming "Catch this!".Obviously they couldn't catch a real bullet it was just a trick. People did it not because they wanted them dead but simply because they believed it so much that they thought it was real.
Your Airsoft gear is the trick. You look like your using real firearms. People see them and believe so much that they are real that the will react as though they are real. AKA calling the cops in fear of 'heavily armed' people running around after each other.
This might be a little of a stretch but i hope it helps solidify the point. TAKING YOUR GEAR OUT INTO PUBLIC IS DANGEROUS AND A SILLY THING TO DO. No matter how careful you are the people watching don't care all they care about is what they see. Just look through the airsoft in the news section. Its never people doing airsoft on a sactioned field..
side note if this seems to make no sense or is pointless to an admin do me a favor and delete it haha i think it makes sense but i am sick soo it might be the nyquil talking
I strongly disagree with backyard airsofting, and I agree with playing on sactioned fields. A friend and I went camping in the moutains, we were both wearing woodland camo BDU's, we didn't know that people saw us going up and within an hour after setting up camp three state troopers came hiking up the moutain to see what we were doing and what was going on. They told us to go home because we had alot of people scared and worried, because they thought we were terrorist or somthing. And no we didn't have any guns. I can't even amagine what would of happened if we were up there playing backyard airsoft. These days airsoft guns looks more like real firearms them a paintball gun. So if you want to play backyard airsoft think it through good and hard before you do it, it only takes one person to see you and freak out!!!!!!

Bull****. A police officer may confiscate ANYTHING that he feels is a threat to public safety. Whether you get it back or not depends on if a crime is being committed.
The bigger concern, and I cannot stress this enough, is Aggravated Assault. If a person feels threatened by your presence or actions, that is aggravated assault, and you are in trouble. If ANY of you think that seeing people with weapons isn't threatening, I urge you to have your head examined by a medical professional.
I know that some of you (not singling anyone out) play BYA, and truthfully, I don't give a rat's ass. I actually hope you get in trouble. I really don't even care if you get shot because of your stupidity. I DO care when people's stupidity affects me, and some nitwit getting killed because he was stupid with replicas will have a negative effect on airsoft.
Nobody EVER got in trouble playing on a sanctioned field. People HAVE had real guns pointed at them and been fined hundreds of dollars for playing on private property. These are facts and cannot be disputed. Everyone thinks "It can't happen to me" and acts surprised when it does, in fact, happen to them.
Learn from the mistakes of others. Your life may depend on it.

Very true, I used to play BYA when I first started, and never knew the dangers until I signed up on some forums and started getting into airsoft more. Since then I have only played at sanctioned fields. But you can be sure that the police WILL be called on you eventually.
Regarding the officer confiscating your replicas, they can confiscate anything they want.
I can't count how many times I had my skateboard confiscated for "endangering the public" when I used to skate.
Not to mention kids get killed because neighbors see kids with pistols and rifles running around. Not all that long ago the cops in Fredrick, Maryland shot and killed a kid playing airsoft. He snuck up behind another player and went to barrel tap him. The cops pulled up at the wrong moment and shot the player. Not only are backyard battles a danger to the public, but they are a danger to the players as well.

No sympathy. Especially since the article says "When he did not drop it and, instead, turned toward officers"

What actually happened was, when the officers screamed drop the gun, he turned to see who had yelled it. I asume the guy wasn't very bright, but it probably wouldn't have got him killed had it not happened in someone's yard.

It's a natural reaction to turn toward someone that's yelling. And if you are playing, your gun will be up (at least I know mine would be). I do feel bad for the kid getting killed, but I feel worse for the cop that has to live with it because the kid was stupid.
This story is typical of the reason we are so fanatical about playing at sanctioned fields.
