Several serious safety concerns have come to light over the past few days, and we really need to have a discussion about them.
First, at the LP game on 5 July, we had a player remove his mask on the field in the middle of a game. Now, while some people told him to put his mask back on, there was actually some confusion about what the players were supposed to do.
The second incident is CrackRockSteady's recent post about a player violating the minimum engagement range rules and playing unsafely. Rather than report it immediately, he waited and posted about it here.
In the first situation, an immediate cease-fire should have been called. ALL PLAYERS are REQUIRED to call for a cease-fire if they see anyone on the field without their eye protection. Don't wait for the staff, dont wait to see if they put their eye protection back on, stop the game immediately. All of us would rather stop firing than risk someone losing an eye. Don't be confrontational, don't scream at the person that took their goggles off, just stop the game so they are safe. Staff will be along quickly to address the problem, and WE will deal with the person that removed their goggles.
In the second incident, a staff member should have been notified immediately so that the person violating the rules can be dealt with. Posting about it after the fact does nothing. All players are REQUIRED to report unsafe acts to staff members so we can deal with the people causing trouble. You aren't bothering us by informing us of asshattery, and we can't do anything about it if you don't let us know.
So, if you understand one thing from reading this, let it be that everyone is required to take action if they see unsafe behavior on the field. Anyone may stop the game at ANY TIME for a serious safety concern. and all instances of unsafe behavior should be reported to a staff member immediately.
I'd also like to add one more thing to my earlier post, but I don't have the time to edit it to make sense.
There are a few guns out there, and a few guns coming out soon, that are equipped with quick-change springs. This means that players can chrono and then swap in a heavier spring that is over our FPS limits.
Again, staff can't be everywhere and see everything. If you suspect someone is shooting hot, ask a staff member to chrono the gun again. It's no big deal and we're happy to do it. If we catch a cheater, it's just a bonus
Oh, and anyone found shooting hot on the field, as a result of a quick-spring change, will be ejected immediately and permanently. There will be no second chances.
Best believe if i see anyone taking off their goggles, i'll stop the game in a heart beat, I think a stern talking to by staff is better than losing an eye.
Although i do have one question, and i am asking from experience. I have been by myself and my goggles fog up, its a lttle confusing when your in the middle of the woods, and you can't see, so you don't know where the staff is to yell to. I've put my dead rag on and wandered blinded by google fog and confused, not to mention starting to get heat exhaustion. thankfully i was found by Snakemedic.
What is the appropriate action if we find our self with our googles fogged up all alone on the field?

You really should never be separated from your teammates or staff during regular weekend games. You should call out for help and wait until someone comes to you. You can always use the radio, too. There is always a command channel you can call on.
Please please PLEASE do not break the seal on your goggles on the field. You only have one set of eyes.
Yell as loud as you can "Cease Fire", then you just let the person know to put their eye protection back on. You want to stop the game as fast as you can. because it only takes a second for that one bb to hit them in the eye.
My question is;
if you see a person with their eye protection off, how do you stop the match?
Yell "CEASE-FIRE" three times. If you are a player on the field and you hear the call, you should immediately stop firing and safe your weapon (mag out, barrel sock on), and yell to anyone else to "CEASE-FIRE" (x3) in case they didn't hear the original call.
The main thing is to get everyone to stop firing as quickly as possible.

Yell out, "Cease Fire!"
In addition if you are ever on the field and hear the call for cease fire, even at the end of the regular games you should respond by also calling out cease fire to ensure that the order is heard across the whole field.

and about the whole quick change spring thing. Why would someone do that and risk hurting someone. I know we have FPS limits for a reason. Its a good thing they get kicked off the field cause that is just plain dangerous
I'm just curious, do you guys chronograph at all the facilities? because when my friend and I showed up at PL late, and we didn't get chronographed, now we knew our guns were below the FPS limit, but I was just surprised.

i was wondering, i saw the one post about the high FPS on most Echo 1 guns. i checked shortyusa and according to them my g36c is 350fps, but if by any reason it seems to be chrono'd over 400 fps, what could a person do? rent or go home? also what do you say if your goggles (or in my case, i wear glasses also), fog up and your wondering around the woods. but i guess a radio does sound like a good idea...

Rent or go home is really the only two options open if you don't have a spare weapon available.
And the goggles fog thing is already answered. Stop, call out for help (someone is BOUND to be in ear shot), and someone will get you back to the safezone so you can defog.
Any suggestions as to how we can keep our glasses from fogging up? Because that killed me last time, I couldn't see anything, then I took my glasses off, and it wasn't much better.

put some dish soap on the inside of the goggles, a very thin coating. it prevents the moisture from sticking to the lense. Im going to try wd40 layer and see if that works. they also sell antifog.
I can't say for sure but WD40 might very well screw up the plastic & rubber of goggles and glasses. Dish soap or anti-fog, and fans are the absolute best combination.

yeah, i know that, but i'm talking about my glasses, will that work on my prescription lenses as well???
Yes soap, does work on prescription lenses, I've done it before. But if you can get contacts and ESS turbofans. I understand though both are considerably expensive, but they are well worth it.

When they call for me I'll be sitting at my desk with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest.
I like to check out my guns every time I go play, Before we start I walk down to the shooting range and chrono each gun I am using that day. That also tells me if something is wrong with my gun before I walk out into the field and I can tell if my spring is getting weak or anything else is different.
In my opinion this is just good practice.

DO NOT USE WD40! It has small pieces of fiberglass in it, and WILL scratch your glasses.

put a bucket on your head and clean your lenses. harharhar!
but seriously one tiny piece of plastic can change your life forever so keep the goggles down!!!
Get a radio. Seriously. Even if your goggles are fogged up or if you are stranded because you broke your leg, invest in a radio. Find a buddy and get on a channel.

Most times, we really aren't that far apart. If you don't have a radio, YELL. Someone will hear you.
And believe it or not, we do look to see if we have everyone before we head back to the safe zone. If someone isn't there, and they aren't in the safe zone, we go looking for them.

That's a lie. I've killed 3 newbies thus far. No one has missed them.
If you aren't prejudiced against wearing a paintball mask, Proto and VForce make excellent anti-fog masks and you can purchase separate anti-fog lenses manufactured by them. Make sure however, not to clean the inside of the goggle lenses with anything but water (I seriosuly messed up my new Proto mask by cleaning the inside with plastic cleaners). And the anti-fog wipes sold at Poco Loco work very well and they are worth it, only $2!

Question on FPS. I know and understand that we are restricted to under 400 FPS. Question is, the gun I purchased was the 60th anniversary Kalashnikov AK-47. The box says up to 426 fps when tested with .12 BB's. I am using .20g BB's, does this bring my fps down enough to compete? I also noticed that fps amounts on this gun are different on the web as opposed to what is on the box.

Anyone that used 12g bb's might as well just take they're gun, put it back in the box and then throw it right in the trash can, because 12g bb's WILL screw up your gun.
does the safe zone in the middle of the field not secure enough that you wouldn't be able to go in there and clean your goggles or glasses?

If you really needed to clean my googles, you'd should have one of the staff escort you to a safe zone so it can be done, I myself would have to say no on the field safe zone because bb's are still flying around and like Murphy's law states, if something can go wrong, it will go wrong. But the event staff can explain it better than i can.
no just a question but i never had any issues with my goggles nor glasses but just wanted to put that out there.

No, can't use it. It's not safe enough. The problem is while the netting stops a paintball, the netting doesn't stop a BB. I can shoot through them without almost no adverse affects on trajectory.
Since we are on the whole safety topic, I know Snakemedic is an EMT, i was wondering if there is anyone else who has first aid and medical training amongst us? Cause its always good to know who to go to incase of an emergency.
The staff all knows who to contact in case of an emergency. That is another reason we stress having an FRS radio, and battle buddies. If you get into trouble, call for help on FRS channel 1 and we will get someone to you. Not everyone who has it wants to be pointed out as having had emergency medical training.

On the topic of the safety netting, I put a bb up to one of the holes in the netting and the bb could fit right through. That being said, i got shot through the net while hiding near it. So the only real safe zone is the first one.

If the moon were made of spare ribs, would ya eat em?
Yes, which means the time you take your googles off is the exact time a bb comes to hit you in the eye. If you set yourself up for an accident, then its gonna happen.
Any real good recommendations on where to get a decent radio?
Links/sites would be awesome.
Also-
I cant quite remember where it was on here but someone recommended
Stop Fog Smith Turbo Series goggles and I purchased them, they were like $60.
What should I look for to know they're approved, or able to be used on the field?
With attempt to further describe them...
Turbo Smith Regulators, stop fog, they have a micro electronic fan.
