G&G SCAR-L CQC Review
There are no real reviews on the G&G SCAR out there, and I was kind of buying blind when I decided to purchase this rifle. I want others to be able to see what this rifle is like before they buy a different one because of a lack of information about this one. This was purchased from AirsoftGI in December of 2009 for $380. With it I got a free Bipod grip which is alright, the only downfall is how loud it is when you press the spring release on the bipod. I use PTS PMags in this rifle, which feed wonderfully.
Specs:
FPS: 330 fps
RPS: 16rps on a 1.5 year old Intellect 8.4v 1600mah

In the package there is the rifle itself, a 450rd Metal Hicap Magazine, bipod foregrip, cleaning rod, and an Instructional DVD.
Now onto the rifle externals. We'll start from the front to the back. The flash hider is metal and was glued onto the outer barrel on my rifle. The folding front sight is very nice, and clicks solidly into the up and down positions.
The upper reciever, contrary to what most airsoft websites say, is made out of aluminum, not magnesium. This can be found on G&G's website, where magnesium is not even listed as a material used in the SCAR. The upper has two side rails, a bottom rail, and a full length, uninterruptted top rail with numbering. The trades on the upper reciever are not the RS trades, they are G&G's trademarks. Trades are not a big deal to me, but if they are to you, this may be a negative on the rifle.
The charging handle can be locked back and released with the bolt catch. The spring behind the charging handle is very weak and when the charging handle is released foreward, it gives off an awful, hollow metal sound. I don't tell most people that it locks back because of the embarrasing sound which ensues from releasing it.
The lower reciever is made out of nylon fiber. The lower reciever features fully ambidextrious controls. The selector switch clicks nicely into place. The pistol grip is a standard M4/M16 series grip. The folding rear sight is very nice and clicks into the up and folded postitions. The stock is made of nylon fiber, it collapses into 6 different postitions, and folds. The stock locks solidly into place when folded. The stock also features an adjustable cheek rest. The battery compartment is in the stock. It is a rather complicated system.
The internals from what I have seen are very nice. The SCAR-L CQC has a 6.04 275mm TBB. The hopup unit is made out of a clear plastic, and there are no aftermarket units available at this time. The hopup adjustment wheel is very very tight. I cracked my fingernail trying to turn it the first time. This is a good and a bad thing. The tight wheel, though it has loosened a little bit, and is still hard to turn, will keep your settings from changing by themselves. The only problem is just how hard it is to turn, this is complicated by the thin opening that is revealed by the charging handle being pulled back. I can't fit a full finger tip into the space, I have to pry at the adjustment wheel with my finger nail.
I will add an in depth review of the full internals as soon as I get my upgrade parts ordered and have them ready to put in.
The 450rd Hicap is made of metal. It wobbles in the magwell, but feeds fine. It is the RS M4 mag length, but because the mag doesn't go up as far into the reciever on an airsoft gun, the mag is longer than what it would look like on the real rifle.
The bipod grip works well, but the spring that releases the bipod is very very loud. It will give away your position if you release the bipod with the enemy nearby.
The Instructional DVD is nice, and it includes a video of complete disassembly and reassembly of the rifle.
Testing:
3 Targets, one at 100', 130', and 150'. I took 10 shots at each target from a prone position.
The 100' target is a bit larger than human head at 15"x11".
The 130' target is the side profile of a torso at 24"x12".
The 150' target is a torso size target at 24"x17".
With just an SCS Nub, this rifle is very accurate. Even at 330 fps, you can expect to get kills at over 150ft. A rifle that is very worth the money.
