I decided when my gearbox broke that I was just going to go ahead and buy another one so that I wouldn't have to worry about it being broken and having to get shipped off and repaired.
Well, I bought one from a guy off of airsoftforum.
It is a JG v2 using a 120 spring.
The batteries I was using: 4200 Mah 8.4v, 1800 Mah 8.4v, 600 Mah 9.6v
Motors: SRC Hi-torque and Echo 1
Motor Grips: CA Stock M4 Grip and Element MIAD Grip
When it showed up I stuck it in the gun because I was just about to go play, but when I tried to run it all I got was a clicking. So I loosened the motor grip screws up little by little, as I had heard that a clicking meant the motor was too tight in the gearbox.
But when the clicking stopped a loud spinning noise started. I tried several times over tightening and loosening the motor grip but the gearbox didn't cycle. I tried two more batteries with it and ,when one finally got it to cycle once, the gearbox jammed in the same spot it had before and the fuse blew. I replaced the fuse but the gun stayed jammed and the clicking and spinning persisted.
Can somebody help me out please? What might be causing it to do this?
I'll probably just be shipping the gearbox back to him so he can fix it, but if I can fix it on my own without opening the gearbox I'd like to know how.
Thank you,
Ben

It cycles if I move the gear manually, it is just really, REALLY tight. He said it fired just fine before though so I'm thinking that something must have gotten messed up during shipping. I was rattling around in it's box when I got it because there was no padding.

There could be a number of things wrong. First, understand that if by manually, you mean you can move the bevel gear through the little hole the the grip would attach to, not only does the sector gear have to pull back the tappet plate, but also the piston, which is laying on top of an M120 spring, so it's definitely going to be hard to spin the gears manually after a certain point.
Though it might also be the shimming, if this guy took the gearbox apart and did some work, he might have reshimmed, and possibly overshimmed. The shimming should only be tight enough so that the gears move freely, but there is no side to side slop. That and also the shimming has to place the gears either above or below the other gears so as to decrease the possibility of the gears wearing on one another.

I would open it up, clean everything out and re-shim. Then re-grease the gearbox. Dielectric grease is great because it can be used on all components in the gearbox. I bought this tube, and I'll never run out.
