Human Rights as Property Rights

This isn't a preachy or political post about free speech or how "the man" is taking your rights away. It's actually a pretty common sense article about how and when your fundamental rights apply. It doesn't hurt that it shoots down the "OMG C3 IZ CENSORSHIP! FREE SPEACHLOLZ" attitude that some unfortunate people have.

Have a look. I learned some stuff, so anything is possible.

I have to tell you Lou, it's a good article, but it's consumed in legalese. It took me awhile, and I had to muscle through it. Hopefully other people won't struggle as I did. However, it brought up a bunch of new concepts to me, thanks for opening my eye a little more.

I would've given you positive rep, but I wouldn't want to ruin your streak.

That's not anywhere near legalese. I actually thought Prof. Rothbard did quite well explaining it in lay terms.

Oh my head hurts (and I only read a few paragraphs)!!

This reminds me of something an old friend of mine once said - "There's only one thing in life you HAVE to do, and that's die". Everything else is FREEDOM you have to make your own decisions and live with the consequences of your actions.

Wow... truly an interesting POV on the our society. Seems to pull inspiration from the old adage of "possession is 9 points of the law". The part where the Prof. goes into details about how many problems could be alleviated with private ownership of the streets was really a thought provoker, though I can't help but begin to see the problems that total privatization of a resource would bring. We would become an oligarchy, the rule of the many by the few. The Haves would control the policy for the Have-nots, seemingly in direct conflict with the statement of "...all men are created equal..." The logical progression that human rights as property rights would assume that the more property you have the more human rights you have.

Not meaning to sound like a socialist, I hold nothing against the "Haves" of this world, in fact I get up everyday and strive to become one of them. What I love about this country is that we are givns" unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." And if Happiness is having a butt-load of cash, so be it!

Thanks Lou, another damn book to put on my "To Read" list.

Just a quick note, the government doesn't "give" us these rights. The Constitution doesn't either. All people have these rights when they are born. The Constitution is there to say that the government isn't allowed to take them away.
