Making custom batteries

Hey,

I'd like to construct a custom battery for my TM SG-1 / G3.

Where can I purchase the individual cells?

Should I go with NiCd or NiMh?

I would like a minimum of 1300 mAh

And do I solder them in a series?

Also, where to buy the connectors ( gold plated if possible)

I already know where to get the shrink wrap ( McMaster-Carr )

Are these the only options? I've seen flat pack lithium batteries and such, would they work as long as the voltage was the same?

Thanks,

TJ

RE: Making custom batteries

Well if you want a custom pack made. go to cheapbatterypacks.com the prices are good and you can get them in just about any configuration you want. IF you really want to do it yourself, they will also sell you the loose cells. Any size you want. Sub C, 2/3 A, 4/5 A etc. If you're just going to use Sub C's than the hobby store will have them.

You can get shink wrap at any hobby / RC store for about $1 per foot.

Go with the NiMh. Make sure your charger can charge NiMh cells.
Solder them in series.
I don't know what you are going to use for the battery bars, but I usually use the metal sheets and cut them to size. you can get these at the Hobby store also.

Make sure you glue the cells together. Super glue works fine.

It depends on what type of connectors you are using but the Hobby store will have them too. Use either the Sermos or the Dean's pins. Either silver or Gold both work well. Silver is slightly better.

LiPo series batteies are a really new technology, but I've not seen anything other than 7.4v and 11.1v, You also will need a special charger for these.
