As someone who aspires to be a geardo somewhere in the near future, an integral part of the attire is your head and what to do with it. I've come down to either a MICH-2000 (fig.1) or the MICH-2001 (fig.2) While there is little to no difference visually, I wonder if people have had any experience with them. Besides those two, regal me with your choice headgear and any of your recommendations/condemnations.
/Alternatively, what kind of comms equipment works well with these style helmets?
//Also, helmet covers, patches, false NVG mounts, strobes, paintjobs.

I had a MICH 2000 before I went vietnam and all, and it was quite comfy, but the MICH 2001 seems to be more lighter/manueverable due to the sides being "cut" unlike the MICH 2000. Comms will work for both helmet, since that what they were intended to be used with. I say get one of the BRAVO commtacs, I know a couple people that have them. I say don't get a helmet cover though, since you can't be super cool and put velcro which I think looks better. Patches, do what you want for that. NVG mounts are a nice touch as well, but the NORTOS nvg mounts are a little more expensive than your typical Rhino style mount. Strobes(we play in the daytime victor :) And for paintjobs, go with a tan as your base color, then go over it in stripes or blotches with a dark brown, like the NAVY SEALS do, and other SF.
Any type of intergrated/whole head comms set ups can sometimes interfere with a proper fit of the regular MICH 2000's, especially if you get a replica. The replica companies, from what I have found, seem to base their molds off of a medium sized MICH. If you have a larger head, and full comms, you can really squish the hell out of your head. Now if you have a real MICH, you run less of a risk of squishing your head into the helmet when running comms.
If you want to run something like COMTACs or SORDINs, I'd go with a 2001. If you dont plan to run any of those types of comms, a regular MICH 2000 works just fine.
But, keep in mind that the replicas very light weight. The moment you add an NVG mount, your helmet will pull forward since the helmet doesnt have the weight of the real helmet, so look into getting an "NVG Counterweight".
