Is there anyway we can require new users to read the stickied posts in the new user section before posting? Lately there has been a lot of new users asking the same questions that have been answered countless times. For example tons of new users have been coming here and posting "I want to get a sniper and kill people from 300 ft. away how can I buy this for under 200$?" (That is not calling any single person out, just using that because its a common question asked.) Basically what I'm saying that if you can require that new users read, and learn that there is a search feature these questions will be brought down drastically.
Why yes, there are a lot of new users asking blatantly stupid questions! We are working on a few different solutions to help new users find common information easier, but nothing as drastic as forcing them to read a few stickies.
Even if we do, there will still be the slow ones who think their question is unique and will ask it anyway.
We're also working on improving the search feature, as it seems to return weird results sometimes.

Would it be possible to automatically send all new users a PM restating some of the rules that newbies can't seem to grasp, but in scaled down, much simpler terms? Could that possibly help?
That or just delete any post until they make in intro. This is in practice on NJ airsoft. It works fairly well. If they don't make an intro delete any other post till they do. The intro can judge if they stay or go sometimes if I'm not correct? Just my insight.
Why do you think that a PM would be read? Also, short of typing "YOU NO TYPE BAD!", how much more simple can we make it?
I just figure a PM might be a quick reminder. I know that when I have to agree to installing software on my computer, I don't even look at it, but when I get a popup on my computer warning be about something, I'll read it.
I was just thinking something like this:
Welcome to the forums! Don't forget...
1. READ THE STICKIES IN THE NEW USERS SECTION!
2. Search before you post a question.
3. Remember to use proper spelling and punctuation.

It's a good idea, but it won't do anything.
Go to the bottom of the page and click the "Contact Us" link. Do you see the big red text that says "Please DO NOT use this form to ask "Where do you play?", or "How do I get to the field?" This form is only for feedback. Please browse the "New User's Section" of our forums for the answers to frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered there, please post."?
Do you know how many e-mails we get every week asking "Where is the field?" and "When do you play?" A lot. We've had several kids ask us to e-mail them when there is a game!
Some people won't read until you embarrass them into doing it. Look at the most recent nitwit in the New User's Section.

I'm kinda liking this idea. Maybe coupled with a PM as a reminder we may just get somewhere. Plus, if they fail to read the PM and fail to make an intro...their posts just end up in the trash. Maybe then they will wise up.

Maybe if we shorten it to make it shorten to the point so the new people (who have at least the slight most attention span) would read it, as for the lollers that's a totally different story.

heheh You guys would flip out if we had done half of what you are suggesting to you when you joined up.
And honestly, you guys shouldn't even be worrying about it. While we appreciate the assists, only the mods are required to read that stuff. And really, the questions aren't that terrible. A GENTLE reminder that the search feature exists and maybe even a repeating of the answer isn't going to kill anyone. Not to complete newbies.
What does drive us nuts is repeated ignoring of the search and what not from the same person or one who has been here a while.
