If you plan on purchasing an Echo1 or JG rifle, check with your retailer on the gun's FPS. There are a few models that shoot hotter than 400FPS with .20 BBs.
I'm not saying don't buy one of their guns, as they are fantastic AEGs for the cost, I'm just saying be prepared and plan accordingly.
Our rules will NOT accommodate out-of-the-box hot weapons, so if it shoots hot (over 400FPS with .20 BBs), you will be unable to use it, even though you made no modifications to the weapon.
Thanks for posting this Randy.
The gun that probably brought Randy to post this is mine. I just got (from airsoftgi.com, by the way) an Echo 1, Vector Arms MP5A5. It shot 425 out of the box with 0.2gm BBs.
I was bummed that I couldn't use it this past weekend at Linglestown, but I totally understand and respect the rules. I still had a blast with my M4 shooting 275, and my G36C shooting just over 300.
I've ordered a PDI 150 as Lou recommended so hopefully that puts me where I need to be under the FPS cap for my MP5.
Just an FYI, the Echo 1 M4 Commando I ordered was listed on Trinity as 350fps. After a few games played with it, it still chrono'd at 385 at OP:BR, this is straight out of the box. This was sort of a bummer as I like to stay under 350 :-)

No guarantees but possibly for the same reasons I'm worried about the JG S550: The instant you drop a tightbore in you're over the limit. Besides, even with a "long" rifle I'd rather be at 360 with a good hop-up & tightbore than 390 without. I like to play for fun, and that includes not causing pain to anyone I'm lucky enough to tag. And then there's gun longevity...
Also, I could be wrong but I got the impression he'd already ordered his so it's too late to be able to request the lesser spring.

well, i got my jg g3 from airsoftgi the other day, on the slip it said 360fps, but i was wondering, is there anywhere around the york area to test fps? or, is there a way to guestimate at home?
I like ASGI, but I don't trust their slips they send out. My first G36E2 said 352, and chrono'd in at 180. The second one says 346, but chrono's in at a very consistent 362 FPS. However, weather and the such is always a variable.

friggin great.... i got the jg 416 and love it. sucks to know id have to buy a downgrade spring to game it
i have jg's dragon too and even though its real short it shoots so hot that you litterally could use each of them for snipers

There is way more to having an accurate "sniper" rifle than straight FPS. FPS without accuracy means nothing, and FPS & Accuracy without range means negative nothing.
If your gun shoots too hot, you've probably seen but I'll reiterate the fact that www.mechbox.com is the best resource available for replacing springs in AEGs.

I have heard that lately Echo 1 has been putting hotter spring into their AEG's in order to draw more people. When your a noob FPS is everything. For some odd reason it makes you think that your gun will pawn everyone else, despite never playing before.
I just a bought a JG AUG/A3 (pics coming soon), knowing it shoots hot, but I have every intention of replacing the clone internals with better ones, and also downgrading the spring. Plus (as much as people may hate the A3) I like it more than the A1/A2. To each his own, I guess. Oh, and it shot 430 out of the box (without a tightbore installed), has since leveled off at 420ish, so I'll just drop a PDI 150 in there and hopefully be set.

Is this the same for bolt-action snipers as well? My UTG L96 has been clocked at a little over 400 with a .28, 460 with .2 grams, or is that only for AEG's?
Hey, thanks for the warning. I know this is an old issue and someone said it might have been resolved, but I'm ordering an Echo1 e90. Does anyone know the fps on that? Shortyusa says its below 400, but they have been WAY off on fps before so i wanted to double-check.
Great section of the forum, this is indeed a very large problem in areas near me. Smaller kids show up and in some cases even end up hurting the big guys. You have to be careful, play it good, play it safe.
