ok, so we now have an official paint thread. here you can ask questions about painting/answer questions about painting. post you own paint jobs (pics). comments, suggestions, and criticism are all welcome.
Sweet! everytime I try to paint something it scratches off...If there a protective spray I can buy?
Well the best thing you can do is use duracoat paint but if you don't feel like spending $45+ on paint you can just get a duracoat clear coat to finish it this should make it last a pretty long time but doing the whole gun in duracoat will last longer.
Not mine, But I have seen this shell in person and thought it was really funny. Sorry if this was a strict MARPAT ACU thread, but I thought a few people would enjoy it.

cool, no this is anything paint thread i don't care what the pattern is.
Atleast you will blend in at the zoo with your gun USMC. I plan to give my G36 an Urban Tiger Stripe paint job. Never done it before so should be interesting.

hey a great way to do tiger stripe is to first paint your first color than take the 2in 3m painters tape and rip it on both sides than lay it down over you first color than paint you second color after that has dried if you have an airbrush do the outline of the stripe in your last color if you don't have an airbrush tape up more more of the gun before you do the outline of the stripe. If i find the link i will PM it to you. if you have any questions just ask.

Most likely, it's because of your prep. In the world of painting, prepping is everything. If there is even a little bit of dirt, the paint wont adhere to the surface metal / plastic. If the part you want to paint is metal, solvents are the way to go to paint (Mineral Spirits will suffice, if you need more umf, Laquer Thinner will do). However, I'd strongly suggest disassembling all rubber and plastic parts from the metal part you want to prep, as solvents can eat certain rubbers and plastic. In the case of plastic, you would want to clean with something obviously compatible with plastic. Be careful what you use though, as some of the cleaners keep a residue which is just as bad as dirt to paint.
Also, certain paints dont like plastics. Krylon has a good reputation for adhereing to plastics.
I just finished my akbeta i finally broke down a decided to paint it..... after a long time thinking about it and after counterstrikers vsr-10 came out so great (i will put up pics later)i decided to do it in tiger stripe.
First off, I like the paint job, so I'm not being critical in my following comments.
Camo works by breaking up the pattern of the original object. You mentioned tigerstripe BDUs -- look at the relationship of the stripes to a standing person. A standing person is a more vertical profile, hence the horizontal stripes to break up the pattern.
Now the rifle is a long piece of equipment. If you are looking to camouflage one, the long pattern needs to be broken up with stripes perpendicular to the longest axis (just like the orientation of the pattern on tigerstripe BDUs). The way you have the gun in the picture painted, you are only relying on color to mask it. Painting the stripes the other way will greatly improve the camo effect.
Digital is a whole other animal, and a lot more difficult to do well.

ok, thanks i will know for next time.
anyway this is counterstrikers vsr-10 i did his gun before mine. sorry for the crappy pics they don't really capture the "look" of the gun very well you kinda have to see this gun in person. (or maby it is just me...)
I'm looking into painting my M14 a camo pattern since the gun is so long it needs something to break it up a bit.
I was thinking a stripped pattern (vertical) using a c.brown color and then a darker brown. Kinda like the black hawk down sniper who got zerged by the somalians
Any advice into techniques and such? I do have some skill in painting plastic however 1:18th scale models don't quite help when your trying to paint a full sized battle rifle

I don't think that's the best way to put it ("zerged by the somalians").
Setting that aside, the rifle used by Shugart's movie character was an interesting paint job, at that. Go for some lighter tan colors, a little bit of dark, and a very light green. I'm going to find some pictures in the mean time.
i used krylons "camo" paint. it has that fusion stuff in it thats supposed to bond on a molecular level to plastic. all i know is its ultra flat. comes in black, brown, light brown & od green colors. worked ok i think...

I'd say that the Mp5 is very close to what you should do to the M14, for the look.

like stated before, camo is designed to break up the outline of an oblect. while it may look cool to put alot of time & effort into a tiger stripe camo design, it probably wont do its purpose very well. what i mean by that is, if you take the time to airbrush accents & define the stripes so they stand out, thats exactly what they will do. you will end up with a gun that stands out more after you painted it than it did before you started. camo by design, is supposed to be an irratic design so it blends with shadows & other objects in your surroundings. its not supposed to have uniform shapes in its pattern. it defeats the purpose & you wind up sticking out like a sore thumb. you also want to pick colors that will blend well with the environment you play in. it might look cool to have a desert pattern camo on your sniper rifle, but how stealthy will a desert camo gun be in a wooded area & so forth. thats just my opinion though, i could be wrong...
You missed the point mental i was going to use your MP5 as a basis for my M14s paint however i was going to simply make it into stripes going vertical(diagonal most likely) and do that in a tan grey/green pattern
well its okay man i guess i didnt get my point across very well. I know a bit about camo and how it works its just i was asking for advice on how to paint it tis all. Airbrushes and aerosol sprays seem they would fit the bill the best
mental those are some sexy camo schemes on your guns, what colors did you use? what kind? ie acrylic, enamle, or other? and how was it applied? spray paint or what? Man those are amazing. I'd like to spray paint my G36C, but I'm not sure how to approach it.

Thanks dude, wow today is a really great day, everyone is being so helpful on all of the airsoft forums that I'm going on, and Tech was amazing today. That is really odd.

I always use the Krylon CAMO spraypaint that was previously mentioned.
I used it on my paintball M4 that I have. I put 5 coats on the hopper, foregrip, and stock... then beat the heck out of it... not even close to marring the finish.
Its one tough coat of paint.
In my avatar, you see a rifle. well, that stock is painted with OD green Krylon CAMO spraypaint, 10 coats.
I'd say nail polish remover maybe some type of cleaner. But if you choose to use a type of cleaner that removes stuff such as paint stay away from goof-off! It melts plastic, but I had good luck with a paint remover called "Oops!"

I dont know if its environmentally safe (or safe period) - but brake fluid melts paint like anything. Spilled some in the trunk of my car next thing I know, the paint wiped off like some rubbery substance.
