Painting the Stock
Me being the bored teenager that I am, the Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor side of me has been taking control. I decided that I want to spray paint the stock of my AUG to have a woodland camo design. I was wondering if anybody has any tips and/or templates they could show me before I start. I don't want to make my "eye-sore" as some like to call it (while I kindly disagree ) any "uglier".
I have used could not find any useful templates

I checked out the paints, they looked nice...some guy actually painted his 4WD with them, but I already have the colors in basic all surface spray paint (matte khaki, brown, and black, stock is already green)

In my paint jobs I use rust-o-leum mostly, but if you can find it, krylon(I think it's krylon) has a line of camo paints which are perfect for painting airsoft guns. Check home depot, that's where I buy my paint.
The best templates are the ones you make yourself unless you can find a how-to guide on a specific paint job you want. I typically make my templates by hand, one per piece of paper so it works like a backdrop to keep paint away from anywhere I don't want it.
Draw out what you want the templates to look like starting from the center of the paper. I use a pocket knife to cut the shape of my designs so I don't have to bend them to use scissors.
Make sure you do three or four light base coats of one color(except in your case, where one color is already on the gun) and then use the templates to draw out your pattern with your other colors. If you do a heavy coat, it'll just glob up and won't dry as fast.

Check out this website, if you want to purchase something the examples on the site seem to have turned out fairly well.
If you weren't planning on buying something online you can always just print out a camo design on a piece of paper and cut out the stencil yourself. There is a pretty extensive painting guide on our forums here as well, if you wanted any tips.
I have also painted a couple of my own guns with mixed results, so if you need any tips (mostly on dont's) feel free to ask, I would be happy to show you some stuff.

From what I found on people suggest that you use Duracoat for the base and then Krylon on top of the base...however my stock is already OD green which is what I wanted for a base anyway. So should I just get a set of Krylon camo paints?

I've never painted a gun before, so I thought I'd give this new one a try. It's tactical assin's M4 commando he recently gave me, painted in 6-color desert style, though the more perceptive in the audience may notice that this is only 4 colors. Also, the colors are way off. :( Krylon for the tan base and brown pattern, acrylic black and white paint by hand for the spots and acrylic clear enamel on top to protect it. I didn't paint any spots on the stock tube for fear that they'd get scratched off when moving the stock.

Nice job! May I suggest picking up a matte clear coat? It looks a little shiny as of now.

Oh yeah, it's really shiny. I hadn't checked what kind of enamel I got; I guess it was the "blind your opponents kind". It's pretty well dry and cured now. Will another coat of matte enamel do any harm?

Thats a really good paint job you did there. I'm half way decent to start painting again once i find some colors I like that aren't fireakin GLOSS or SEMI-GLOSS!

I don't think it could hurt. At least with spraypaint clear+matte didn't do anything bad. It made it less shiny.

I've used both Krylon Fusion Camo, and Rustoleum Camo and haven't really developed a preference. The secret is to lightly sand any surface, and then properly clean it with mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol. DO NOT TOUCH THE SURFACE WITH YOUR HANDS! Any oil can let the paint rub off easier.
Then just do about 4 light coats, waiting about 10 mins between each. You then need to wait at least a WEEK for the paint to fully cure so it wont rub or fake off as easily. I typically use a base color, then highlight it using a screen or piece of netting. See below for some examples:
Custom Marlin XS7 .308 Hunting Rifle
Custom Airsoft GI "Shadowknight" M4 (thanks to L96ninja!)
I need some help with something. I put on a coat of black paint over my sniper rifle stock to cover up some small scratches and since it is my first time painting a gun, I put it on too thick in some spots so it clumped. Can anyone tell me what to do in order to make it a little bit smoother?

If it were me, I would sand the paint you put on my hand. Then try again.
I just used krylon spray paint. Just make sure its satin and not gloss. The colors I used were camo brown, almond, camo tan, hunter green and Italian olive. Also make sure to get Krylon Fusion. That's the only kind that will stick to plastic.

Painted my TM P90 and MICH2000 a reptile/snakeskin pattern. Used Krylon Ultra-Flat "Camouflage" Khaki as a base coat, then put a mesh tennis ball bag over it and sprayed Krylon Ultra-Flat "Camouflage" Brown over it. I sprayed it lightly, then kind of did a tiger stripe design on it as well. You can see how their are diagonal lines that are darker. Let me know what you think, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, sorry for the pictures being kinda big. I kept resizing them smaller but for some reason they stayed the same; damn this craptop.

Thank you sir It really was not all that hard to do, just lots of time and patience. I had to cut out each of those stupid squiggly pieces...
Well the time and hard work shows.

haha you should have made the helmet look like a turtle shell. I like how that pattern turned out, did you use some kind of net?
Thanks. And to answer your question -

I was bored today, so I decided to paint my MICH 2000 an AOR1 esque pattern.
The Paint Job ~ The base coat was Krylon ultra flat tan, followed up by a light dusting of Krylon ultra flat brown in order to give the base a slightly grayish tan color. I then used stenciling to make the first set of digital patterning with Krylon ultra flat brown yet again. After that I dusted the stenciling with Krylon's ultra flat tan to make it appear more like the lighter brown present in AOR1. I then took up the stenciling again and overlapped it/put it between the previous stenciling in order to give it the meshed together look of most digital patterns.
The Stencils ~ I made the stenciling by simply going online and printing out pictures of the AOR1 pattern. I then took an Excel Hobby knife and cut away the digital patterning until I saw fit.

The ak-74u was originally clear and, the pistol was silver-black
Forgot to add how I did it sorry, this was pretty simple.
1. Get black plastic spray paint krylon works bests(not needed if it already is black or you like the tone of black).
2. Get kyrlon camouflage flat green .
3. Get a sheet of tin foil.
4. Get painters tape.
5. Get a utility knife or something sharp to cut with.
How to:
1.Spray paint your gun black put on A couple coats you do not need to if it is already black enough for you.
2.While you wait to dry you can work on the decal take you tin foal and painters tape and, cover the tin foil full of stripes of painters tape. After done so take your sharp tool and cut out stripes like A tiger cut it open.
3.When your gun is finished drying place your decal of where you want to spray it and spray away when you lift it up your image will be right there, you only need 1 coat so don't worry about lining it up for more.
I don't know how it looks I tried to make it cool but at the same time blend in with lp fields.
