Hey guys, I have been searching around for a decent AEG to turn into a sniper rifle. I seen the Echo 1 m16a4. I hear good comments about this gun, and I also hear some bad.(Barrel wobble and other loose parts, nothing major). I am planning on installing a tight bore barrel, and possibly spring upgrade if I do get it. Whats your opinion on the gun, and if it's worth the money or not. Here is the link to the specific one I'm thinking about getting. http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_i...ducts_id=27753
Thanks,
Andrew
I think my friend has this gun. It's pretty good as far as I can tell. I think you can get the same gun cheaper on airsoft gi (LINK: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...ducts_id=1975). I'm also looking into getting this gun. Montgomeryville army navy has this gun to, I think.
God, I love the lolsnipers giving each other advice. You can smell the failure through the Internet.
You will never get an AEG to compete with a real airsoft sniper rifle, at least by our rules. If you are going to upgrade the FPS of an AEG over 400, you are going to need a lot better quality than an Echo-1 gearbox, and you will wind up replacing everything.
If, however, all you want is additional accuracy, you should be good to go with any gun. Just change the hop chamber, bucking, and add a tight bore barrel.

How about you use the "Shift" key or stop posting?
Yeah, I looked at numerous spring rifles, but i prefer a semi auto rifle over a single shot spring. As of right now, if I buy it, I'm going to put a tight bore barrel on. Eventually I probably will upgrade the internals to up the fps, and make it more competitive, but as of now, I'm going to just go with a barrel upgrade. Truthfully not all that interested in dumping a lot of money into a sniper, and would prefer something along the cheaper route.
P.S. Nice edit

WHAT!! I hope you can explain that statement, because I find it unilatterly false.
Second:
I have a echo1 M16A4, it has been pretty decent but understand, mine is used, mine is so modified that their are NOT a lot of echo1 part left on it. In fact I am not sure any of it is echo 1 anymore, mostly G&P, TM, Systema, and other parts.
Third:
There are so MANY topics on getting into a sniper's role on this forum, I am not even going to address it here, just type "sniper rifle in to the search function to the right of center in the forum center. However, I will cover the topic of AEG sniper rifles briefly.
In the rules set that governs play with c3 airsoft, found in the rules threads that are easy to find, a AEG is limited to 400fps, period. a bolt action ONLY gas or spring sniper rifles may exceed this to a maximum of 500fps also measured with .20 gram BBs. The only advantage a true sniper class using a bolt action sniper rifle replica is in this higher velocity range, which allows the use of heavier BBs at average velocities. The heavier BB is as important to range, consistency and accuracy as the higher velocity and tightbore barrels. Upgrading a sniper rifle replica is also very expensive because these upgrades do cost a lot of money and time to tune them.
So even if you had semi only M14, M16, CA25, PSG1 they are still limited to 400fps with .20gram BBs, this is NOT negotiable, so much like taking the role of "sniper" in paintball, it can be done, but there is no range or accuracy advantage over a regular AEG user.
There are some threads where you can build what is becoming known as a DMR in airsoft. derived from designated marksman rifles which are accuratized battle rifles that are meant to engage targets at the limits of a squads effective range. Most of these builds on other forums shoot to hot for c3s games. They are very very VERY expensive and break a lot, shooting very high velocity stresses mechbox components greatly. I am explaining this so you have a ground work to search from.
now that that is out of the way, a Echo1 M16A4 is a pretty solid replica, you may need to down grade the spring to get it to shoot under the 400fps with.20 gram BBs velocity rules. Down grading it to shoot around 350-380fps may even make it last longer, have them reshimmed while they are in the gearbox. You will gain significant accuracy using a quality soft type hop up bucking and a tightbore barrel, a strike type hop up chamber helps eliminate that annoying M16 type hop up creep. then use a quality .23or .25 gram BB, You will NOT be a "Leet sniper operator" or even a DMR but you will have a fairly reliable functional battle rifle that fulfills a variety of roles and loadouts. Montgomeryville Army surplus and Airsoft Atlanta can set up with it.

Hey guys, I have been searching around for a decent AEG to turn into a sniper rifle.
Andrew,
In one of your other threads, I told you to come to a few weekly games, and use the guns you have. You agreed that was a pretty good idea. I'm going to recommend that again.
Now, if you decide you want to make an ubber-sniper rifle, out of an AEG, it's a losing proposition. You said yourself the gun you are looking at has the potential for barrel wobble issues. "Barrel wobble" and "sniper rifle" don't fit in the same sentence. Tight bore or not, barrel wobble = inaccuracy, especially when we are talking "sniper rifles."
Stick with a decent AEG to start with, add a few hi-cap mags, pay your field fee, and enjoy what you have. After playing with us, you have a better understanding of which direction you want to go with airsoft.
We're trying to save you some money here, believe it or not.
Now, on to the "don't buy Echo 1" comment. What a bunch of crap.
Echo 1 guns perform are at the peak of "bang for the buck" when it comes to AEGs. They perform superbly for what they cost.
Just to throw this in, if you DO get this gun get it form Airsoft Atlanta. It's going to get to your house a lot faster. Keep in mind, even though the gun says DMR you can still use it as an assault rifle.

Haha, ok, ok, Your starting to sound like my parents Steve >.<, but hey that's a good thing, I need to stop looking at guns, and just focus on playing more, but I am defiantly looking into this gun for the future and still want some advice on it, your info has been very helpful, and I thank you for it.
You are welcome.
Now, get to some weekly games so you can check out what we are all using. That will be much more helpful to you than internet "reviews."
