Squad Tactics Class - April 24, OA Chesapeake City, MD (tentative date)
MSAT Squad Tactics Class - Date TBD
This will be the first Squad Tactics class offered to the MAAPR community. The class is about using real military tactics adapted to airsoft. The instructor is Maj. John
Bucciarelli, a retired US Army infantry commander with over 20 years of experience. OP Pine Plains veterans know him as "Blacksheep" and the organizer of the Pine Plains games
at the fantastic MOUT at Fort Drum, NY. After retirement, Major Bucciarelli played paintball but then discovered the realism offered by airsoft weapons and equipment. After
his first few games he realized that something needed to be done about the chaos that most airsoft games degenerate into. To that end, he started offering the squad tactics
classes, which emphasize squad unity during airsoft operations. This is the same squad concept that is used during Operation Pine Plains.
These classes have been offered in the Northeast region for many years, and I was able to attend one at Tolcom field in Massachusetts. Up there, these classes are filled up
(there were over 60 in the class I attended) and rookies and veterans alike attend.
This class will be custom tailored to offer both squad and MOUT/CQB training and tactics. Some of the topics covered include:
Reporting enemy information
METT-T
OCOKA
Warning order
Operation Order (OPORD)
Arm and hand signals
Individual movement
Buddy team movement
Temporary fighting positions
The Fire Team
Fire Team bounding
Fire Team defensive position
The Squad
Squad movement
Squad defensive position
Deliberate ambush
Hasty ambush
Knock out enemy bunker
React to an ambush
React to a sniper
Conduct area recon
Characterizes of urban warfare
Room clearing
Entering buildings
Hallway clearing
Stairwell clearing
Reflexive shooting
Squad urban operations kit
The training format for the day is as follows:
- One to two hours of classroom
- Maneuvering training
- Practical application - lots of trigger time!
During the maneuvering training period, you are split up into squads and fire teams. You then practice the techniques you learned about. After that, during the Practical Application period, you do actual airsoft skirmishes using these techniques. Most people who attend these classes say that this is the best thing to happen to airsoft, and I agree.
The class would be held at Outdoor Adventures in Chesapeake City, MD. The reason for this is to give our members in PA and NJ a chance to attend, as well as those of us from MD/DC/DE/VA. Also, at CC the requirement is goggles only (already discussed this with OA) for those 18 and over.
The cost of the class is $40.00. The field fee is $10.00.
There is a manual that is available for an additional $10.00.
The $40.00 is a registration fee and would be due in advance. The field fee and manual (if desired) are due at the field on the day of training.
I do NOT have a date set up yet, but am targeting the weekend of Saturday, April 24th. This is three weeks prior to OP Pine Plains and should spread out the money pain.
You DO NOT have to be attending Pine Plains to attend this. There is NO age limit (other than what OA might have.) All are welcome to attend.
Please post here if you would like to attend. If I get at least 22 people (2 squads) I can make this happen and get Major Bucciarelli down here.
Thank you!
