I hate how some people thing GUNS in general are bad... no they are not, most people use guns for sport, Game, protection, and a fun time at the range, like me. But, sadly people only think about the miss users of guns. GUNS don't kill PEOPLE, PEOPLE kill PEOPLE
Only 1 out of every 6,500 guns are used in a crime in the world.

That first news report I find very insulting. Here are news reporters who have no idea what the hell they are talking about, they are making biased statements based off bad information. "what kind of people buy these kinds of things" How about me and my friends. They are trying to make the sport that we all hold dear look criminal. If anything our games keep us from getting into trouble on the weekends. I'm sure we can all think of much worse things to do with our weekends. Hahahahaha.

Exactly, they were probably reading off a teleprompter. And i don't know how many people have covered up their "orange nozzle" but I'm since we did we all have criminal minds.
You know thats why I don't even like watching the news

Sorry for the double post, but all these news things have one thing in common they all can make airsoft look bad. I mean there is even a commercial i found that stated that replica guns can be converted into real guns.
These news companies have one real goal...ratings. They want to make everything look so bad so people will keep watching. the more people watching the more money they make. Do you think they really give a crap about the people like us at C3airsoft and other airsoft organizations who play airsoft responsibly.

Also "Who's buying these things?" They don't know what the hell they're talking about, The military and law enforcement trains with them and millions of people are buying them and this sport is becoming more and more popular than paintball, and they think those idiots at fox news think that they can try to get rid of all those companies that produce our airsoft guns? It just bugs the nerve out of me that they want to try and get rid of this sport when they don't know any idea that it is safe and fun, not dangerous and harmful.

This is an example of how people can who are scared of something they don't understand. They don't know anything about airsoft, they see fake guns that look real and try to make it something evil. The video I put the link up for is an extremely good example, at the end. They say, "replica guns are being converted to real guns"

Good point Chaos, I mean it's the ads that are evil. I mean kids shooting other kids? What kind of message is that? The people that made the ad are evil, not the people using airsoft guns. If they want to say airsoft is evil, Well hell they can just say it to all the militaries and police that do use airsoft and say it to their face.

You know what I think we should do, find out what these news reports do for fun on the weekends and make a misinformed totally biased and one sided video bashing the crap out of it.

But really, let's be honest: America is afraid of it's own shadow right now when it comes to terrorism. We live in a post 9/11 world where anyone seeing anything even remotely threatening scares the crap out of them.
It's just something we have to deal with and work around. It's why we discourage any and all references to BYA here, why we post examples of badness that happens because people are careless with airsoft, why we discourage the idea of media attending our games, and why we need to continue to be so diligent in doing these things.
News organizations make money off bad news. The more they can spin a story to be true and detrimental to something, the more money they will make. Sometimes they'll just throw truth to the wind and go crazy on the slander. Look how up in arms you all are from 3 stories. Now, would you be so if they were sugary recounts of airsoft? Of course not. That's the point.
And making a mocking video isn't going to prove any point other than you're petty and childish.
The first video wanted me to go over to that studio and shoot them all with plastic! Muahahaha!
You see, this is exactly the type of statement that those news corporations like FOX feed off of. While stated in a light hearted nature, it is still generally unsafe to say something like this. Not to mention that it gives airsoft/airsoft players a bad name because of one statement like this. Not to mention that the news doesn't care about the minority (majority, rather) of players who are responsible. They only want ratings and if creating a false sense of fear among the population about airsoft gives them ratings, guess what: they'll do it.
Sure people could use and airsoft gun to commit a crime, but I've seen people use baseball bats. or how about knives. So why don't they make a law against baseball and anything sharp.

mothersagainstguns video was a load of crap. Who can mod a toy gun in a real firearm? let alone a child...I would suspect they would have to buy reel steel parts ammo for it to even work.

Alright we don't need bad publicity for the sport but that's exactly what fox did. Like snipes said it's starting to grow at a large and rapid speed. With that problems will start popping up with law enforcement with idiots tempting fait. Point a replica at a cop is like jumping off the empire state building and asking for nothing bad to happen. Which we all know will not happen. People just need more logic while dealing with a replica(which should always be treated like real steel). That's my 10 cents.

Well jumping off the empire state building worked in that snapple commercial... with the bubble wrap everything... nevermind.
On topic though, we have to deal with the fact that there are and always will be people in the world who will use anything, from airsoft guns, to phone handsets, to toothbrushes to attempt to threaten and take advantage of people. It sucks to live with it, but think on a larger scale. I go home to CA sometimes and someone introduces me as being from Philadelphia, and the person immediately thinks I'm a murderer, drug addict (or dealer), or other negative things. This simply stemmed from the fact that when that person thinks of Philly, they think of drugs and murders, most likely because that is what makes the news.
But we also have to remember that not everyone watches the news. And there are plenty more who take it all with a grain of salt, like they should, and they find out for themself. While there will always be people bashing the sport, there will be people finding groups like us here at C3 who are doing things right.
As to the making a law against bats and the like, I know that was probably a joke, but let me pose a response. It is very hard for the government to make a law regarding these types of things that will remain effective. Aside from the very small middle ground, there are two examples.
First, the law can be overly specific. If they narrowed it to say guns with the tips removed, real guns with tips painted, whatever it may be, it could still leave enough out that people will be able to continue using the guns for ill-intended purposes.
The second option is that the law is overly broad. Look at the CD-copyright protection law. Basically, it says anything that can defeat the copy protection on a CD is illegal. By that definition, sharpies are illegal (you can on some discs draw a ring around the outside and it won't read the copy protection bit). A paperclip is illegal because you can scratch the copy protection data area until it can't be read, and will just be skipped.
The point is this, without a law being perfectly crafted, it will have little effect. Especially in sports/areas like airsoft where many people use the item safely, however a small few use it illegally. Overly broad laws will be shot down as being too broad, then subsequently not be enforced. Very specific laws limit a little bit, but people with their mind set to it will find a way past it. Grand total: Ineffective unless perfect. And how often does perfect happen?
Just my $.02 .

All I could think about during that little "commercial" was:
1. What's with all the children shooting eachother?
2. That girl seems to be in a dangerous situation.
3. Wear eye protection for goodness sake!

Look when ever the news gets a story about someone doing something stupid with an "airsoft gun" they will do everything in their power to cornhole our sport and make us look like a bunch of criminals. And they will do it with a smile on their faces cause they know we can't really do anything but site there and take the bad publicity. This is why I asked in a post a while ago "what else can we do?" to try to see if we could take a more proactive approach to protecting our sport, and promote safe responsible airsofting.

Jesus, Chaos, you make it sound like these anchormen/women are just manifestations of pure malevolence. Honestly, unless someone has any real bias (i.e. a personal incident that negatively effected their life involving airsoft) then yes, they would deface and slander airsoft with a smile on their face. But honestly, these hot-button issues draw in viewers and boost ratings; which is all they care about. They're not in it to destroy our sport, they're reporting stories so their channel gets more publicity which translates to more money. Airsoft is just like gas prices when they were about $4. With their nice cushy jobs, anchormen/women don't have to worry it so they don't sympathize; it's simply another story they've got to report. Look, all I'm saying that it wasn't right to make a statement like "And they do it with a smile on their faces cause...bad publicity...etc." It's not to say that I'm against airsoft in any way, shape, or form. I for one love it! It's just the principal or making a generalization like that. And I mean the preceding with all do respect to you my friend! Not trying to offend in the least!
I totally agree that the first review was totally one sided and why would the mothers against guns group do that. I personally think that anyone in the right mind would not go around shooting each other with real guns. People just dont understand the sport and why we do it.
I understand the media is just doing their job, they have to make there ratings. but anyway we look at it. stories like this are always a lose-lose for airsoft. I think the best way to combat this is to educate people about what airsoft is really about. And help people to stop BYA, and airsoft stupidity in general.

Did anyone see the 8th grade student at St. Andrews who brought in 2 airsoft guns, and are was trying to recruit 4 students to do a columbine type shooting at the school, after he obtained real steel guns. So far I haven't heard airsoft be mentioned, but there most obviously airsoft guns do to one having an orange tip, and the other being ripped off. Im worried, that if the news channels do start saying that they were airsoft, not pellet guns, that things could go down for airsoft here in PA.
