Question Tight-bore Barrel? What to get?

Hi Guys,
I have plans to buy a new barrel for my AK-47 I know the size I’m just a bit confused on the brands. I have very little experience with the quality of the different brands. I know that the lowest price isn’t always the best and the most expensive is usually not worth it. So the question is which brand should I go with?

• Mad Bull $44.95/45.00
• Bravo $42.95
• JBU $39.95/45.00
• EdGI (Polar Star) $69.95
• KM Head $31.95
• Systema $44.67
• LayLax $57.15

I'm only looking at the 6.01 barrel at 455mm, so if you find a different price feel free to add on.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Ice

I have Systema barrels in four guns and I like them. I have been told that Prometheus are better but have no experience with them.

Edit: As far as I know, Systema barrels are 6.04mm.

Loved my prometheus that I had in my M16, but the systema in my M4 wasn't bad either. I would say either of those is a good choice.

Prometheus is the best. Even at 6.03, their quality is unmatched. I've got one in my AUG, and it's a freakin' laser.

Do NOT get an "AirsoftGI" brand tightbore. They're garbage. Got one for my LR and it had big metal shavings where they milled the hop up chamber. The end of the barrel also had burrs that prevented the BB from actually exiting the barrel. I had to fix it myself, and I'm sure the accuracy suffered.

I have a MadBull 6.03 tightbore in my CA G36K and it works like a charm.

If you want a good 6.01 barrel go with PDI but they will set you back about 100 bucks.

I looked into the PDI barrels and they look top knotch but its $136 for the barrel I need sooo I don't think I'll be going for that one just yet. I'll most likely try a lower end model just in case I mess it up. I'm not an idiot so I won't really stab it into the dirt but we are just starting to get people interested in airsoft in RI so I let people try out my gun so they know what they are getting thereself into and I don't really trust people with my stuff.

Maverick was telling me about a new Madbull 6.01, but I don't know how much it costs.

I've run Promy and Madbull, and I really can't see any difference. I stick with Prometheus because A) it's stainless, therefore harder to screw up than aluminumor brass, and B) it's shiny!

The only thing with Promy barrels is that Walt has run into random issues with them, like the inside of the barrel will be warped. Not saying that all of the Promy barrels are this way, but a lot of what has come through to get upgraded and has had a Promy barrel, he has found the barrel to be the issue. That is why he recommends a Systema barrel when changing the barrel.

Well I love shiny stuff so that is defiantly a plus, I'll have to look into it further, if I find anymore information on the subject I'll be sure to let you all know.

From what I have found out, Yes, you are right I've been to a bunch of sites and haven't seen anything other that 6.04mm for Systema barrels not saying that its bad just I'm not looking for anything other that 6.01mm. I honestly don't know if it makes that much of a difference but it just what I want. Maybe one of you can change my mind.

Look forward to hearing from you all and thanks for the help,
Ice

You do know that the difference between a 6.01mm and 6.03mm is just 0.0007", right? There aren't many people on this forum that can even MEASURE out into ten-thousandth of an inch. *coughLOUcough*
Unless you are running something so upgraded, that you are trying to squeek the most accuracy out of, like a sniper rifle, I doubt you would ever notice the difference between 6.03 and 6.01mm in an AEG.
Not to mention at 6.01mm, you are certainly into premium BBs if you weren't already.

any tightbore barrel should show a improvement over stock. I put in red the barrels I am using, I am not sorry I bought any of them, they were all pretty much what I expected them to do, a improvement over stock. Keep in mind that most of the more expensive barrels are usually more consistent inner diameter over length. Some of them are also a little thicker stock which help prevent flex and vibration. This is more important on bolt action sniper rifles and DMR build AEGs. There is a barrel comparison on line somewhere, but I don't have a link (sorry) of course then you have to trust the testing of who ever wrote the article. Tight bore generally need higher quality BBs and more contentious effort in cleaning

I've had good luck with the "cheaper" brands. I've got a JBU 455mm in my FAL, and a KM in my G36 and they are both very accurate.

Keep in mind your hop up can be just as critical as your barrel.

I am using the JBU 6.03 500mm in my L96 right now and VERY happy with the barrel.I was going to run the 6.01 but was concerned if you get a SMALL piece of any dirt in the barrel.
I have a Madbull 6.03 363MM in my ICS M4 it that shoots well also.

I gotta agree. In 3 different guns I have a PDI 6.01, a Prommy 6.03 and a Madbull 6.03. All 3 barrels are over 500mm in length and I honestly can't tell a difference between them. All my guns shoot straight and have tight groupings. Of course, I also recommend an good hop up bucking as well.
