Despite being not entirely finished assembling my current loadout, I've set my sights on an invasion of Iraq-era Marine loadout. Most of it is admittedly Generation Kill-based, but as far as I know that stands up to historical accuracy. I suppose I should clarify that I'm looking for accuracy input, brands, etc.
TEXTWALL shot.
DCUs- This one is pretty easy, just a set of 3-color desert BDUs (is there an actual difference between 3-color desert BDUs and actual Desert Combat Uniforms?)
Interceptor Plate Carrier in Woodland- This one is a tricky one. Only replica colors I can find are tan, black, and ACU. Anybody know if there are affordable replicas in all the originally-produced colors? I suppose if I really had to I could buy a surplus non-ballistic shell, but I'd rather not.
Tan Mesh MOLLE Hydration Vest- This is pretty readily available. I'd been looking for something to wear over the Interceptor for more useful MOLLE- the Interceptor's design seems to give it weird webbing placement. Also, yes I did see it on Generation Kill...
Open-topped MOLLE M4 Pouches- I have these on my current plate carrier, should be fine for putting on the outer vest.
Admin Pouch- More stuff I want for both my vest loadouts.
Dual Pistol Magazine Pouch- If I ever get in a situation where I need to transition, and then do a speedreload in my secondary.
40mm Grenade Pouches- Thinking about going grenadier on this, if I do I'll keep a couple of 40mm's on me.
PASGT Helmet- Also readily available, I believe it is the Iraq-era helmet the Marines wore. Can anyone confirm if they had started phasing it out by then or not?
Some sort of mock NVG- If I have a fake AN/PEQ, might have something to use it with.
M16A4 RIS- Not sure which brand to go, but I'd assume Echo 1. Not my chief concern right now.
M203- I do like the idea of going over to the Toph side...
AN/PEQ-2 or 15 Laser Pointer- MilsimMilsimMilsim. Sadly, the infrared versions are neither field legal, or in fact civilian attainable to my knowledge.
Replica AN/PAS-13- I really want a fake thermal sight, but I'm almost positive they don't exist. That failing, I'll stick with irons.
SERPA Holster Thigh Rig- I tried a SERPA once, out of game, and fell in love with the whole concept.
Beretta M9- I don't particularly like the M9, but it's the time-appropriate issue sidearm, so I guess I'll go with it.
End textwall. Confirm splash.
I think this is all it needs, but if anyone has any perfection suggestions, feel free to provide them. This isn't really a short-term loadout, just something I wanted to do at some point and my geardo-ADD drove me to assemble this info now instead of when I actually have money for it.

Don't trust to much of what you see in Hollywood. I loved the generation kill series. But the accuracy left ALLOT to be desired. They had stuff even us special task force marines couldn't get hold of.
If you want to truly be accurate first you'd have to decide what type of job (mos) you want to be modeled after. start from there.
I can say from a S.T.F. point of view that my load out and weapon I carried depended on the mission at hand. For example. in Afghanistan I carried an M14 (silent, 12x optics) and a desert eagle as a side arm.
So pick what job you would like to do if you ever joined the military and go from there. If you'd even like advice on actually load outs the marines use just send me a pm
Alex, that looks pretty sketchy. Tanker, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. What pieces of gear did they add in that wasn't any sort of issue gear? I was looking at either the Infantry or Reconnaissance Man MOSes. As I understand it those would be very similar in loadout.

I've answered the ones that I could to the best of my knowledge. I found alot of this through researching my current/late war loadout when I was putting it together. Some of this I found out through actually talking to guys who are in the Marines, so it should be mostly accurate.
I'll do some research on the early invasion stuff, I know alot of Marines still had flak jackets when the war started in Afghanistan, but I think they were phased out by the 2003 invasion, and the IBA was mostly phased out later for the MTV(the Paraclete plate carrier I have, which is the current one).
My answers are in red text.

Don't forget woodland camo(M81), the Marines are poor, so some guys didn't even get proper desert camouflage. I know many of the MOPP suits were woodland as well.

I have one by Guarder, very comfortable and while it doesn't have as much real-estate as my MTV, it's still great, and feels very high quality as far as relpicas go.

Double mag closed top pouches will work too, they would probably be more accurate actually.

It should work, though they also use MICH helmets and LWH helmets.
Some sort of mock NVG- If I have a fake AN/PEQ, might have something to use it with.
Only for an SQL loadout, otherwise you'll need an ACOG replica which is the standard issue optic. ACTION makes a nice replica, I like mine though it doesn't magnify anything, but the ones that do are supposedly terrible.
M16A4 RIS- Not sure which brand to go, but I'd assume Echo 1. Not my chief concern right now.
I recommend an M4 since you can achieve the same range and accuracy in airsoft as with the M16, but the barrel will be more compact. An M16A2 would also work for an early war loadout, they werer phasing them out but alot of guys still had them.
M203- I do like the idea of going over to the Toph side...
Get one. I know I miss mine...
AN/PEQ-2 or 15 Laser Pointer- MilsimMilsimMilsim. Sadly, the infrared versions are neither field legal, or in fact civilian attainable to my knowledge.
STAR and VFC both make functioning replicas that are non-IR and retail around $100. The real one is expensive as hell, and anything is attainable if you look around the internet.
Replica AN/PAS-13- I really want a fake thermal sight, but I'm almost positive they don't exist. That failing, I'll stick with irons.
They use ATN PVS-14's on infantry rifles, but again, unless your a SQL you would probably be issued an ACOG.
SERPA Holster Thigh Rig- I tried a SERPA once, out of game, and fell in love with the whole concept.
Beretta M9- I don't particularly like the M9, but it's the time-appropriate issue sidearm, so I guess I'll go with it.
Only really applicable for certain loadouts, most infantry never get issued sidearms.
End textwall. Confirm splash.

I'll try and help in whatever way I can, if you have more questions just ask.

Frank, I'm curious as to if/which Marines wear IR Strobes or patches, and why none of them wear American flags. This question isn't limited to you, in fact hopefully one of our resident Marines can help me out here.

I don't know, but everything I've ever heard or read about the Marines is because they don't display rank, unit, etc. during wartime/combat. I'm not sure about the flags.
This is a picture of my USMC LWH helmet which has the light mounted on the right side, which has three non-IR and two IR bulbs that are turned by switches on the back. The IR lights are used to identify each other as friendly when using night vision, which I'm pretty sure is a replacement for the IR patches.

James, I watched Generation Kill again, and if you want to base your loadout on the show(which was actually pretty accurate) then here's what I've gathered:
Woodland Interceptor(IBA)
Tri-color desert uniform
Tan boots
Helmet(mich/pasgt/lwh) with tri-color cover
M16A4, M249(non-RIS w/o ACOG replica)
M4 RIS w/o ACOG replica or foregrip, w/black rail covers on all but top rail
Optional:
Alice gear worn over IBA(some officers and Nate Fick did this)
M203

I would get a PASGT and try to get real mil spec covers. The one i got from evike.com sucks. But I was able to find 2 fake thermal sights thats arnt real expensive.
Instead of a replica OTV, why not get the real one for just as much? It doesn't have the soft armor inserts, but I have read that you can make one some just as easily yourself.

That's pretty freakin' neato. How did you find that? I had to slog through pages and pages of Google results before I found anything at all like that. Off-topic, but I know that you can get BALCS-cut soft armor panels from some places that sell body armor. Heck, if you wanted to, you could buy SAPI plates from a couple of retailers. Maybe. It might require Military/DoD/DoJ/Contractor ID.

I hate to admit it, but I tend to find my stuff through ASR. I still don't suggest going there though, I'm pretty sure I found links for it on Arnies too. I would REALLY suggest Arnies over ASR.
/Anyway, you could always get fake plates and fill them with sand to the correct weight.
//Unless you're OPERATOR!
What boots would you be rocking for an accurate impression?

Just a little of advice. Don't really use movies, TV series, games as a reference or as a source for stuff. Look at photo's and read some books or websites that tell you about the gear.
