I am reviewing the UTG M4 commando AEG. I purchased this rifle from pyramydair.com for $274.99. This rifle has been through many skirmishes and I think it is ready for a review.
--What comes inside the box/ first impressions--
When you open the box, the first thing you see is the full metal M4. I was like WOW this thing is heavy! It also includes a 300rd hi-cap magazine, 8.4v 1800mah NiCD, Standard wall charger, a winding tool for the magazine, cleaning rod, detachable adjustable iron sights, and, of course a front plastic grip. The battery that comes with it is not the greatest. It does not last very long, the first time I used it only lasted 1000 rounds. I upgraded to a 8.4 4200 MAH. The magazine included is all metal, hi cap holding 300 rounds.
--External--
This is one of the most durable AEG’s I have ever owned. The rifle has a rubber back plate for the adjustable stock, and a really nice rubber handle. The back plate constantly falls off, so you have to glue it on. I have lost it many times during skirmishes. This AEG can take a beating externally. Besides the back plate you won’t have problems with pieces falling off or breaking off.
--Internal--
Alright, for a UTG this gun has better internals then most of their guns. But the internals still are not the greatest. It has a metal gear box, upgraded mock TM gearbox, M120 spring, and adjust stable hop-up. The battery compartment is wired to the front under the RIS. This rifle is extremely hard to take apart. Out of the box it shoots about 370 FPS with .20g and about 15 bb’s a second. After about 9 months of use this baby is shooting 340 FPS with .23 and about 9 bb’s a second. Not too bad, but a low ROF. Another nice feature on this AEG is the full auto and single fire switch. This gun can take all TM M4 upgrades if you do so chose to upgrade it. I use TM high caps which work great. This AEG is accurate up to 55-60 yards
--Final--
For the price, I would recommend a different AEG. This rifle is about $80 dollars overpriced in my opinion. I have used this AEG often and have never had any major problems. Keep it clean and it will last you a while. But I do not see this rifle comparable to a TM or a Classic Army. This is a good beginner’s rifle if you want to have a good, solid looking AEG. I would rate this AEG’s performance at a 7/10
