Now I have not personally dealt with any VFC guns, but I have seen a VFC SCAR-L fail at the field. From what I've heard they are not the best internally and tend to break fairly easily. Now with any SCAR-H that is on the market right now (minus the STAR/Ares) they all have an elongated version 2 gearbox, such as an SR-25 would have. Most parts are compatible with standard version two parts except for the piston, tappet plate, and the air nozzle. The VFC SCAR-L that I saw was beutiful externally, but it was the second time the owner said it had broken and needed to be worked on. Knowing this I personally would steer away from the VFC SCAR-H's because of the odd gearbox style and it being prone to failure. As of now there really is no very reliable SCAR-H on the market, and all of them have a slightly different gearbox style then a standard version 2 making it harder to find parts. From what I heard Echo-1 was supposed to release a SCAR-H that had a standard version 2 gearbox, but I have yet to see anything about it.
Then on top of the SCAR-H's having an odd gearbox, the mags are fatter and do not fit in standard M4/M16 mag pouches. To carry these mags you need to get mag pouches that can hold M14 mags. I know Condor makes open top M14 mag pouches, and I believe that Pantac had some closed top pouches. Also I have not found anywhere that sells the VFC SCAR-H mags for less then $30 a piece. On the upside of the mags being so expensive, the hi-caps hold 500 rounds and the midcaps hold 190 rounds, so you may only want one or two extra hi-caps or a few mid-caps depending on your play style. Hope this helps!
I recently bought the VFC SCAR L and it shoots great. Although i have the light version. I see no problems with it and have better luck then the other guy on the field. The gun is very solid and shoots fast and accurate out of the box. It also comes lipo ready. I think there great guns if you go for the light one because of what toph said about the mags.

Yes my Scar-L did fail at the first game I played at Poco Loco. but the problem wasn't the gearbox. I had a burned fuse. However, I ordered my VFC Scar-L off Airsoft GI and it came with 430 fps out of the box with .2 bbs. At montgomeryville army navy their Scar-L came out the box with only 320 fps. So, airsoft GI could had done something to my Scar before it was shipped to me.

When did you get yours? The reason I asked is because I noticed on GI that as of Feb 2010, they no longer come in the case they do, however they are the same price. I was wondering if VFC had updated their internals to those of their other guns which are supposedly rock solid (like their PDW).
The Scars come with two springs one is 330fps, and the other is 400. Im not sure if ASGI put the higher rated spring in there to attract sales (because FPS matters right......Just kidding) or if VFC just changed it and had batches come with the lighter spring in. Either way we still have the SCAR H in tan, and offer a warranty if it happens to fail within that time period.

Sorry for the late respond. I order my VFC Scar-L around May of 2010, and it didn't came with the case.
